During Holy Week, you typically receive, purchase, or even dare to make tsoureki (Greek Easter sweet bread). So, you have it...you eat some...you beg others to eat some...you give some to non-Greeks...and then, you feed the birds.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup of whole milk

6 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon melted butter

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2"-3/4" thick sliced tsoureki

Optional Add-ins:

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Fresh orange zest

Directions

  1. Heat a non-stick pan over a medium-low heat (pan must be thoroughly heated before you start!)

  2. Whisk all ingredients together (except the tsoureki)

  3. Let the tsoureki soak in the mixture for about 5 minutes, flip half way through

  4. Cook until each side is golden brown, about 3-5 minutes per side
